SIRCULS and INLAND LIBRARY SYSTEM DELIVERY

ILS/SIRCULS provides delivery services to its members, as follows:

PUBLIC LIBRARIES

All public libraries receive daily delivery except Inyo County Free Library, Palo Verde Valley District Library and Victorville City Library.  ILS will ship items to these libraries via UPS.

Items for Riverside Public Library, Riverside County Library System, San Bernardino County Library System and San Bernardino Public Library are delivered to a central site where they are sorted for branch delivery.  Keep this in mind if supplying an item that needs to reach its destination by a certain date.  If the deadline is very short and the library does not get daily delivery, you can ship the material UPS.  (See DEADLINES below.)

SIRCULS LIBRARIES

SIRCULS libraries are responsible for returning items to ILS or member libraries.  SIRCULS libraries may contact their local public library and make arrangements to use their ILS delivery connection.

DEADLINES

If an item needs to reach a library by a certain date and you are not sure if the delivery will get it there on time, please call the ILS office and consult with staff.  If using the delivery to ship an item needed by a certain date, you must mark the package RUSH: DELIVER BY (DATE).  This is especially important if the receiving library is not on a daily delivery schedule since we will need to alert the driver to make a stop by the deadline.

If the delivery is unable to deliver an item by the date needed, you may either mail it or UPS it to the requesting library or route it to the ILS office and ILS will pay the shipping costs to ILS member libraries only.

DELIVERY TO LIBRARIES OUTSIDE ILS/SIRCULS

Frequently, items are returned to an ILS/SIRCULS library that belong to another system member library.  ILS is able to return items to libraries that are members of the Metropolitan Cooperative Library System including Huntington Beach and Santa Ana Public Libraries, the Santiago Cooperative Library System and the South State Cooperative. Please consult the membership lists of these systems, included in this section of the manual.  If a library is NOT on this list, do not place the item in the ILS/SIRCULS delivery.  It will be returned to you. Generally, ILS connects with other Systems weekly.

HOW TO PREPARE ITEMS FOR DELIVERY

All packages shipped in the System delivery must be clearly labeled. (Remember to label packages with deadline dates, if needed.)

Please use the delivery codes to label packages.  Delivery codes appear in the printed manual in the YELLOW Section and in the SIRCULS Directory.  For example, a package for the Perris branch of Riverside County Library System, would be labeled as: “PER/RCLS.”  Items that are not labeled, mislabeled, or not packaged may be delayed in transit.

To label packages for libraries outside of SIRCULS/ILS, please use this format:   “Full Library Name, System Name via ILS Delivery” i.e. “Whittier Public Library/MCLS via ILS Delivery.”
